Let’s break this down. Glasses are simply tools that correct how light enters your eye — they don’t alter your eye structure or worsen your eyesight.
So why does it feel like your eyes get worse after wearing glasses?
Why People Think Glasses Make Eyes Worse
It’s often a matter of perception. Here’s why:
Adaptation: When you wear glasses, your brain adapts to clearer vision. Taking them off suddenly makes your uncorrected vision feel worse than before — even though it hasn’t actually changed.
Progression: Some eye conditions, like myopia (short-sightedness), naturally worsen over time, especially in younger people. It’s the eye changing — not the glasses causing harm.
Timing: Many people only get glasses after their vision has already started worsening. Glasses get blamed simply because they showed up late in the story.
